STUDENT CONDUCT ON SCHOOL BUSES

While law requires the school district to furnish transportation to students living beyond two miles in grades K-8, it does not relieve parents from the responsibility of supervision of students until such time as their child boards the bus in the morning and after the child leaves the bus at the end of the school day.

Once students board the bus - and only at that time - do they become the responsibility of the school district. Such responsibility will end when the child is delivered to the regular bus stop at the close of the school day.

Students waiting at a school for pick-up will be the joint responsibility of the administrator of that school and the school the student attends. Students should arrive at pick-up points no more than 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time of the arrival of the school bus.

RULES FOR BUS RIDERS

Students will:

  1. Be careful in approaching bus stops - walk on the left, toward oncoming traffic, be sure the road is clear both ways before crossing the highway.

  2. Board and leave the bus at locations to which they have been assigned unless they have parental and administrative permission to do otherwise.

  3. Wait in a location clear of traffic. Behavior at the bus stop must not threaten life, limb, or property of any individual.

  4. Be on time for the bus so the time schedule can be maintained for others.

  5. Board the bus quickly and go directly to their assigned seats without disturbing or crowding other students. The bus drivers expect reasonable conduct in a manner to that of a teacher in a classroom.

  6. Remain seated at all times when the bus is in motion. The driver may assign seats to all or some of the students.

  7. Not eat or drink on the bus except as required for medical reasons.

  8. Not have alcohol, tobacco, or drugs in their possession on the bus except for required prescription medication.

  9. Not use profane or abusive language on the bus.

  10. Not place any part of the body outside the window of the bus at any time.

  11. Not bring animals, firearms, or weapons of any kind, including pocket knives, on the bus at any time.

  12. Not place any large articles on the seats. All parcels or other objects shall be held in the students' laps. Aisles and exits must be kept clear at all times.

  13. Obey the driver promptly and without question or challenge. The driver has an important responsibility and it is everyone's duty to help.

  14. Not engage in loud talking or laughing. Unnecessary confusion diverts the driver's attention and may result in a serious accident.

  15. Be courteous to fellow students and to the bus driver.

  16. Not fight, shout, or whistle on the bus.

  17. Not mark, write on, cut, or otherwise deface the interior or exterior of the bus. Any student(s) caught causing damage will be subject to discipline. The cost of any damage or related repair will be charged to the student's parents.

A NOTICE TO JVS STUDENTS AND PARENTS

On days that Midview High School is not is session and the JVS is, JVS students are transported from Midview High School to the JVS in the morning at their regular time.  They are also then picked up at the JVS in the afternoon and transported back to Midview High School.  The only exception to this is on snow days.  If the Midview Local School District is closed due to weather conditions, buses do not run at all.  If the JVS is open on these days, students must find their own way to and from the JVS.
