Midview High Athletics Pre-Season Welcome Letter

August 4, 2008

Dear Students, Parents, and Coaches:

Welcome to another school year, which kicks off with our Fall Athletic Season.  I know the students and coaches have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming 2008 season, one that will be filled with excitement for everyone.  There are two upcoming events that all students and staff will be expected to attend.  They are as follows:

Athletic Picture Day – Monday, August 11th.  Each student will be given a picture packet from Woodard Photography by his/her coach.  Please fill that out, with the appropriate payment, and then turn into the photographer on August 11th.  Pictures should return to MHS in about 2-3 weeks, and the coaches will distribute the picture packets to the athletes.  Please be advised that there will be no picture retakes for Athletic Photos.  Please follow the schedule below for your team’s picture time

  1. 12 Noon – 12:30 – Volleyball
  2. 12:30 – 12:50 – Cheerleading
  3. 12:50 – 1:10 – Boys Soccer
  4. 1:10 – 1:40 – Football
  5. 1:40 – 1:55 – Cross-Country
  6. 1:55 – 2:10 – Girls Soccer
  7. 2:10 – 2:30 -  Girls Tennis
  8. 2:30 – 2:45 – Senior Collage
  9. 2:45 – 3 pm – Golf

Fall Athletic Meeting – Monday, August 18th at 7:15 pm in Kubuski Gymnasium.  This meeting is mandatory for all coaches and athletes, as directed by the OHSAA.  Parents are strongly encouraged to attend.  Each student will receive a copy of the Athletic Handbook, where certain areas will be reviewed during the meeting.  Several teams will have their team meetings immediately afterward, as listed on the schedule below.  Teams that have their team meetings on another day are still required to attend the session in Kubuski gym on August 18th.  The session at 7:15 pm will last between 30-40 minutes, with several team meetings afterward.  Prior to the meeting, 5-game passes will be on sale, with adults paying $20 for 5-games, and senior citizens and students $15 for 5-games.  Unfortunately, due to rising costs, Midview will follow the WSC policy of charging Senior Citizens student rates at all games.  There will be no more free admission for Senior Citizens.  Also, students and senior citizens must buy pre-sale home football tickets on Friday during lunch to receive the $4 ticket.  All football tickets at the gate are $5, no exceptions.  The team meeting schedule is as follows:

·                          Football and Cheerleading – Team Meeting on Sunday, August 10th

·                          Boys and Girls Soccer – Team Meeting in APR on August 18th at 5:30 pm

·                          Volleyball – Team Meeting in Kubuski Gym following Fall Meeting on August 18th

·                          Golf – Team Meeting in Auxiliary Gym following Fall Meeting on August 18th

·                          Cross-Country – Meeting in LRC following Fall Meeting on August 18th

·                           Girls’ Tennis – Meeting in Health Room following Fall Meeting on August 18th

A few final reminders heading into the season:

·                          All students need to have a completed physical and emergency medical form on file before participation may begin.  Coaches are not allowed to have students participate without these forms.

·                          All students must complete the athletic code/waiver form before the beginning of the season.

·                          All students must submit their pay-to-participate fee two days before the first contest.  The fee was raised at the Midview School Board Meeting in May to the following amounts:

§         $150 – First sport

§         $100 – Second sport

§         Third or more sports – No charge

Thank you again for your participation in Midview Athletics, and I hope to see everyone on Monday, August 18th.

Sincerely,

Bob Maver
