Improving Fluency and Literacy

at Midview's Elementary Schools

Midview makes an extra effort to raise fluency and literacy through a special "Pen Pals" program in our elementary schools. Several sixth grade classes have partnered up with second grade classes this school year to become pen pals and exchange letters, work on crafts, and perform “Reader’s Theater.” Students will improve their letter writing skills and reading fluency, with older students role-modeling for younger students.

While our students are accomplishing great things in and out of the classroom, our district is facing difficult struggles financially that threaten to hurt the quality of education. The district has been fiscally responsible and has cut more than one million dollars over the past two years, and Midview has one of the lowest costs per pupil in the county.

The Pen Pals program is made possible because of the continued support of the Midview community. If Issue 39 does not pass in November, the district will be forced to make an additional $1 million in cuts --cuts that would hurt education. These cuts would hurt our ability to provide the quality of education we currently provide Midview's children. For more information, log on to the Issue 39 Website.
