Principal’s Message

Welcome to Midview High School – Home of the Middies! MHS exemplifies excellence, knowledge, creativity, strength and leadership. Midview High School has always represented high standards of excellence, extracurricular endeavor and service as witnessed by our motto – Enter to Learn; Leave to Serve. Our students, our staff, and our community work hard to continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.

There are two important factors that influence our world and our students’ lives: a global economy and changing technologies. In today’s world it is extremely important that our students are College and Career Ready upon graduation, so this past year we incorporated the Midview testing day, with our Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors taking the Explore, Plan and Pre-ACT tests. We also replaced laptop computers with desk tops in every classroom, and for the 2011-12 school year 48 projectors and white boards will be installed in the classrooms in our effort to continue transferring our school into the 21^st century.

In addition, our school was rated Excellent by the State of Ohio for the seventh consecutive year. We welcomed three new inductees into the Midview Hall of Honor, won the conference in Wrestling for the second consecutive year and had a state qualifier in Track. The Softball Team won the WSC title for the fourth straight year and made it to the "Sweet 16" the last two years.

History:
The present High School was originally built in 1967 as a Junior High School, until the needs of the district demanded more room for students in grades 9-12. The building was then designated as the High School in 1977, and has remained so ever since.

Mission Statement:
We believe that the individual student is important. Therefore, we attempt to continue the preparation of each Midview High School student for responsible involvement in the cultural, moral, social, and economic life he/she will encounter in our changing world. We feel that our primary function as educators is to provide opportunities for each student to reach the point where he/she can pursue independently his/her own learning on the basis of interests, aquired knowledge, and skills. We seek to provide a friendly, educational atmosphere, which will enable each student to become a positive, creative self-disciplined, maturing individual capable of identifying his/her ownvalues and of attaining his/her own goals within our democratic society.

Core Curriculum:
Language Arts, International Studies (French and Spanish), Math, Science, Business, Social Sciences, Health & Physical Education, Art, Music (Instrumental and Vocal), and Vocational & Occupational Studies (Industrial, Technology, Home Economics).

L.D., D.D.

Academic "M" Award:
The Academic "M" Award was initiated to honor our outstanding academic senior students possessing a minimum 3.50 grade point average (GPA) after six semesters of high school.

National Honor Society:
The Midview High School Chapter #6545 of the National Honor Society was chartered April 22, 1956. Selection into NHS is based on four criteria: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. These four ideals are each considered equally in the selection process. NHS strives to recognize the total student; one who excels in all of these areas. Students may not apply for membership. Those who meet the eligibility guidelines will be invited to become NHS members. NHS nominees and members should be exemplary role models in following the Midview High School Code of Conduct.

Honor Roll:
Students who attain a 3.5 Grade Point Average for the 9 weeks grading period will be placed on the Honor roll for that grading period.

Merit Roll:
Students who attain a 3.0 Grade Point Average for the 9 weeks grading period will be placed on the Merit roll for that grading period.
