Post Secondary Options (PSEO)
College Opportunities for High School Students: The PSEO program is sponsored by the State of
OPTION A (Student Paid)
Option A - permits eligible students to enroll in college courses for college credit. Students electing this option will be required to pay all costs incurred, including tuition, books, materials and fees.
OPTION B (Government Paid)
Option B - permits eligible students to enroll in college courses for college and high school graduation credit. Students electing this option will not be required to pay for tuition, books, materials, or fees associated with such courses. Students may need to pay for equipment, which they keep, such as tools, calculators, and the like.
PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
(1) 9th Grade* 3.9 (Based on 7th & 8th grade record)
(2) 10th Grade* 3.7 (Based on 8th & 9th grade record)
(3) 11th Grade 3.5 (Based on the 3rd
(4) 12thth Grade 3.0 (Based on the 5th
Talent Clause: Earned A’s or B’s in appropriate high school courses in talent course area.
(5) For 9th and 10th grades only – Students will need written recommendation from their principal or counselor and a teacher on the form provided with the application.
(6) An official academic transcript must be submitted with the completed application.
PROCEDURES
1. By March 30th the Intent to Participate form must be submitted to the high school guidance counselor.
2. Before enrolling in any courses, students and parents must sign a statement certifying their understanding of the responsibilities involved in the PSEO program. An information/counseling session will be held for parents and students.
3. Students must be admitted by an eligible postsecondary institution. All college courses must be verified by the high school guidance counselor before students can register for them.
TECH PREP
QUALIFICATIONS TO ENROLL: IMT, NCT and MET applicants should have junior standing, a 2.5 GPA, have passed Algebra with at least a C, have passed Keyboarding or Computer Applications and have some experiences in Technology. Attendance and proficiency results are also reviewed. Health Science Technology applicants must have a minimum of a B average in Biology I and Algebra I or the equivalent, maintain a GPA of 2.75 or above, have passed all proficiency tests, and have a record of good attendance. HST applicants must also submit recommendations from a math or science teacher and one other teacher or counselor, and undergo a personal interview.
Students in Tech Prep will be spending three or four periods taking required courses at
TECH PREP PROGRAMS
Health Science Technology (HST)
Health Science Technology prepares students for a range of health care and related careers. Students will learn elementary and advanced patient care techniques, anatomy and physiology, first aid, medical terminology and other higher-level medical procedures. Tech Prep high school graduates in the Health Science Technology program will be well prepared to continue their technical education at a two-year college, enter a hospital-sponsored nursing program, or pursue a baccalaureate degree at a four-year college.
Career Opportunities:
Career possibilities after associate degree completion include: associate degree registered nursing, medical assistant, medical laboratory technician, and physical therapy assistant.
Interactive Multimedia Technology (IMT)
Interactive Multimedia Technology is designed to give students the opportunity to experience, produce and excel in the fields of electronic aural and visual communication. Students learn basic theory and technique in computer-based graphics production, digital recording and editing, audio recording and editing, video recording and editing, web site design and layout, interactive presentation design, two dimensional modeling, and animation. Students who complete Interactive Media at LCCC will receive an Associate of Arts degree with options in Computer Art, Graphic Design or Media Production.
Career Opportunities:
With an Associate of Arts degree students will be qualified for occupations in: Graphic Design and Layout, Photography Studio, Video/Television/Multimedia Production and Web Site Design and Layout.
Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MET)
Manufacturing Engineering Technology teaches the operations of manufacturing from the first stages of design to the final steps of production using a variety of manufacturing technologies such as: automation/robotics, quality assurance, hydraulics, pneumatics, metalworking, computer aided design (CAD), and computer aided manufacturing (CAM). Students who complete MET at LCCC will receive an Applied Science in Technology with options in Automation/Robotics, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Processing, or CAD/CAM.
Career Opportunities:
With an Associate degree of Applied Science in Technology students will be qualified for technician positions in areas such as: Automation, CAD/CAM, Quality Assurance, Plastic and Industrial Manufacturing.
Network Communications Technology (NCT)
Students in the Network Communications Technology program learn how to use, build and maintain networks. The program includes hands-on coursework in computer programming, CISCO Systems curriculum, Microsoft Applications Software, and Web Design. The CISCO Systems curriculum is being studied with a goal of CCNA student certification.
Career Opportunities:
Students with a Computer Information Systems/Network Communications Technology degree are qualified for positions such as: Information Technical Support/Microcomputer Support Specialist, Network Systems Technician/Administrator, PC Coordinator, or Network Coordinator.
