GLOBAL ISSUES - This course will combine the importance of Geography and Western Civilization.  It will study climates, topography, different cultures around the world and map skills.  The course will also encompass a brief history of these different cultures, showing how they have grown throughout the years.  Topics will include ancient cultures, culture of the Middle Ages, the rise of the Renaissance, Industrial Revolution, and important events that have shaped the globe during the 20th century.

UNITED STATES HISTORY - This course will cover United States History from the Civil War Era to the present.  Emphasis will be placed on 20th Century international events and the political, cultural and economic development of the U.S. as a world power.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT U.S. HISTORY – Advanced Placement U.S. History is a full year, one credit course for selected accelerated students.  Teacher recommendation and high personal motivation are required. This course will take an extensive view of the history of the United States of America, beginning in 1492 and continuing through to the current time.  The class will require a large reading load; a textbook and supplementary readings will be used to intensify the research.  Written reports and detailed essays will play an important role in the class. Taking the AP Exam is required. FEE REQUIRED

Prerequisite:                              3.5 gpa, A average for Global Issues and departmental approval

Elective:                                    11th grade

SENIOR SOCIAL STUDIES - This course is the study of the structure of the institution called Government.  It begins with the foundation of all government principles and traces their functions at the local, state, and national levels.  Special emphasis will be placed on the Constitution of the United States and the three branches of the National Government.  The course will incorporate economic principles and the impact of the government on the economy.  Course work includes outside readings, application of current articles, and development of writing skills for analysis of information.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT GOVERNMENT  -Advanced Placement Government is a full year, one credit course for selected accelerated students.  Teacher recommendation and AP History are required.  This course will take an extensive view on three fundamental topics:  the institutions of American Government, the historical development of governmental procedures and policies, and who governs in America and to what ends.  This class will require a large reading load; a textbook and supplemental readings will be used to intensify the research.  Written reports and detailed essays will play an important role in the class.  Taking the AP Exam is required.  FEE REQUIRED

Prerequisite:                              3.0 gpa, A average for AP American History and departmental approval.

PSYCHOLOGY - This course is the science of human behavior and deals with such problems as how we learn, how we see our external world, what things motivate us, how personality develops, what is disorganized personality, and how you deal with it.  This one semester course will explore these topics through class experiments, readings, and lectures.

Prerequisite:                              3.0 gpa, recommended for college-bound students

SOCIOLOGY - Sociology is the scientific study of the pattern of human group life.  It deals with such topics as socialization, culture, group dynamics, social classes, race relations, and social change.

Prerequisite:                              3.0 gpa, recommended for college-bound students
