Students will soon have opportunities to enjoy art, gym, library, music, and STEM clubs during recess time: Sports League (1st league is basketball), Music Maestros Club, Middie Makers Club, Library Club, and Art Club. Each specials teacher will coordinate their activities and will offer new sign-up opportunities as they change their activity.
Additionally, the Middies on the Run running group has been established as an after school running group to help students work on social/emotional skills while running on our all purpose trail. Students will have opportunities to run with the Midview High School cross country team as well as compete in a local 5K race.
While this is the first year East has embraced student groups and special interest clubs, it looks as if there is no turning back now. Mr. Shane Sullivan, Midview East Principal, explains, “Having special interest clubs for our students not only improves the students ownership of their own learning while at school, it also cuts down on behavior concerns. When students want to participate in a fun club, when they are really engaged, they are just happier all around.”
For more information about student groups and special interest clubs at East, feel free to reach out to our main office or speak to your child’s specials teacher.
