Ryan Morgan hired to lead Midview Baseball Program
Ryan Morgan is the next Head Baseball Coach at Midview High School. The recommendation was formally approved at the Midview Board of Education Meeting Wednesday (November 20) evening.
Morgan replaces Todd Ratica, who resigned this fall after leading the Middies on the diamond for the last four seasons.
“Ryan emerged from a talented candidate pool to earn the opportunity to lead his first interscholastic athletic program,” Athletics Director Dan May said. “He has a strong two-sport coaching background as well as tools from being an educator to keep our program moving in the right direction.”
Morgan, an Elyria native, played both baseball and football for the Pioneers before graduating in 2007. As a senior he was captain of both programs while earning All-County in baseball and All-Conference, All-County and All-Region in football. Morgan went on to earn four varsity letters in football at NCAA Division III Heidelberg University.
“I am extremely honored to be named the next head coach for Midview Baseball,” Morgan said. “It is an amazing feeling to be able to join Middie Nation, which has a rich tradition of baseball success. Midview has a tremendous community and family feel which makes me excited to get to work. Go Middies!”
Morgan earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration from Heidelberg in 2012 as well as his Career Technical Teaching License with a focus in Integrated Business Education from Ashland University in 2015. That fall he joined Elyria High School’s faculty as a Business Tech teacher. He is currently the chairman of the Business Department. Morgan is currently enrolled with the American College of Education and pursuing his Masters in Educational Technology.
In addition to teaching, Morgan has coached both baseball and football at Elyria. He led the freshmen baseball team for two seasons, the junior varsity program for another before moving up to the varsity assistant role last spring. In football, Morgan spent two years as a varsity assistant at Wellington High School. At Elyria, he has led the freshmen team before assisting at the varsity level the last three years.
Morgan lives in Elyria with his wife Jesse and their one-year-old daughter, Harper.
“I want to thank Coach Ratica for laying the foundation over the last four seasons,” Morgan said.” With the returning upperclassman, I expect us to compete and improve in the SWC. I am excited to work with the very talented freshman group coming up as well. As a program, our kids will compete and excel in everything they do, both on the field and in the classroom.”
Midview Baseball will be looking to bounce back after a season in which it finished 7-15 overall and 6-12 in the Southwestern Conference. The Middies have a strong corps of seniors expected to lead them on and off the field in 2020. Midview is currently slated to open its 2020 season at Brunswick on March 31. • 2020 Varsity Baseball Schedule
