12/16/08 -- The state mandates that every student in kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 9th grades have their vision and their hearing tested. 7th graders are required to have vision only tested. Please make sure that your child wears their glasses to school as prescribed by their doctor. Good vision is a critical piece of the education process. Any child in the district, regardless of their grade level, can have their vision or hearing tested throughout the school year per a teacher's request, a parent's request, or the student's request. If you would like your child screened or if you would like to know the results of their screening just send me a note and I will gladly do that when I am in their building. If your child does not pass the vision or the hearing screening a letter will be sent home informing you of their results and recommending that you seek a thourough exam by a physician or eye specialist. If you do not have vision coverage or Medicaid you may qualify to receive a free eye exam and glasses for your child. Contact me for information regarding this program.
