Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What happens if I don't pass a quiz or test?
A: The program locks a quiz or test if you score below a 60%.  It then tells you to contact your teacher.
You can either:
  • write an email to both [email protected] and [email protected] and one of us will reset the test or quiz for you to try again or
  • You can message through APEX and choose which teacher to message
  • Be as specific as possible to help us.  Tell us which subject and which quiz.  Label it with the number (i.e. 1.2.4). That will help us reset it faster.
Q: How much should I be completing every day?
A: Each course is different. You should have a syllabus that was shared with you. It will give you due dates for Unit Tests. You will have to pace yourself to ensure that you have completed all of the quizzes needed for that Unit prior to the due date.

A: Mrs. Hicks and I run the MVP and Middie Academy program together.

Q: What happens if I fail the same quiz or test 2 times in a row?
A: We will unlock the quiz or test twice.  We will remind you to use the Study Resources and all of the tools at your disposal.

Q: What happens if I fail 3 times in a row?
A: If you fail three times in a row, we will be in contact before unlocking.  You will need to complete the study guide or materials in a Google Doc or on paper and be ready to share it with us upon request.

Q: Can you help explain how attendance is taken?
A: Attendance is required every weekday per state law.  Mrs. Hicks will check your attendance each morning for the day prior.  That gives you until midnight to complete work in a course. I've worked with some students individually who have special circumstances about what is considered present.  Email me if this is you.

To be present, you must complete at least one quiz in one subject daily. However, if that is all you do, you will not be on pace to complete your units or courses.  I do have a few students who want to finish an entire course before moving to the next one (i.e. complete English Unit 1 completely before starting Science Unit 1). I'm okay with that as long as you have enough time to complete all work that is due each week.

Q: When can tests and quizzes be unlocked?
A: Mrs. Hicks and I will unlock and reset quizzes and tests during normal school hours (7:00-3:00).  Some nights and weekends we will have time to reset outside of those hours. But we both have families and lives outside of school too. And I go to sleep around 9:00 every night (don't judge me, I'm old. One day you will go to bed that early too).  Please know we will get to what we can as soon as we can.

Tests will be unlocked one day prior to the due date.

Q: How many classes should I have?
A: You should have at least 3 at a time. If you don't, you are probably missing an Elective.  Email me with your Elective choices. If you don't know the options, I can send you a list.  If you haven't chosen Electives by the end of this week, I will contact you.

Q: Do I have to take the MAP tests if I am a senior or if I don't need a particular class (i.e. Science)?
A: Yes. All students district-wide will be taking MAP in Math, ELA, and Science this year, whether they are in person or learning virtually.

Q: Sometimes when I try to write in a box or mark an answer, it won't let me. Why?
A: Some of the activities are excluded.  Practice, Journal, Explore, Lab, and Discuss activities are almost always excluded.  You don't have to do anything on them, but read through them and ensure you understand. You can take notes because it will help on the tests and quizzes, but there is no work for you to submit for a grade.
