At
Midview Local School District, we have so much to be proud of and to look
forward to as a community. Our district is filled with bright, hardworking
and talented students who excel in the classroom, on the field and on stage,
as well as the teachers and staff who support them in their endeavors and
help them exceed expectations.
I am
pleased to present this District Profile as a representation of all of the
programs and opportunities that Midview offers as well as the accomplishments
that have been achieved.
At Midview, our mission is “Where the Community Educates and Empowers.” This is evident in our district every day by seeing our faculty, teachers, coaches and students work together to improve and reach their goals. As a part of our mission, we are ready to launch our strategic plan, which with the help of the community and a large number of stakeholders, was developed over last year. Clearly laid out in the plan are our goals to be recognized as an innovative educational leader in safety, social-emotional health and unique educational pathways for all students.
As part of the strategic plan, Midview is expanding our curriculum to include three new educational pathways. This year, we unveiled the business pathway – the first of a three-part system that we will continue developing through 2020.
As a district focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), Midway is also continuing to enhance and expand Project Lead the Way STEM program. For the first time last year, we had full grade-level accelerations for student’s Pre-K through twelfth grade and have added the class to our rotation of specials, much like the teachers for music, art and gym at the elementary level.
As a
district, we are fully embracing Naviance, our college and career readiness
program. To do this, a Naviance teacher has been added at the middle and high
school levels. Students will be able to explore options for classes and focus
on what they want to do in the future.
By exploring these educational programs and pathways and reevaluating the offerings we provide to students, Midview has been able to save the district more than a quarter of a million dollars. One area that developed from this assessment is the Digital Academy. The Academy allows students in a digital medium to make up credits, take classes that did not fit in their schedule, partake in embedded intervention and enrichment activities and even study from home while still feeling as if they are a part of the Midview community and receiving the social-emotional support they need.
Across
the district, we have also allotted more time for students to individually
meet with teachers as well as collaboration among teachers by recreating the
bell schedules for grades 5-12. This new schedule will allow staff to have
more time during the day to work with students so teachers and children will
not have to stay late while getting the support that is so crucial to
success.
At
Midview, our goal is to foster a growth mindset as we celebrate our successes
in addition to discovering ways to improve the educational experience we
provide to our students. We could not do this without a community that is
committed to education, supporting the schools and getting involved.
As a
superintendent, that public involvement is so appreciated and humbling. It is
why I am honored to be a part of Midview Schools. I encourage everyone to get
involved in our schools and be a part of our Midview community!
