Attendance

Online Learning

Students will be expected to log into Edgenuity daily Monday - Friday. In order to be counted present for the day, a student must complete the task for the day. That is not enough work for a student to remain on track, but it does meet the attendance requirement.

Middie Academy

Students will be assigned days and times for in-person attendance. This will vary between students and take into account effort; course load; jobs; graduation pathway; behavior; etc. An attendance plan will be conveyed to students and parents with the intent to remain flexible throughout the year.

Regardless of in-person or virtual instruction, students must complete all attendance requirements and remain committed to their Individual Learning Plan at all times.

Bell Schedule

  • Group A - In person hours - 7:30 - 10:30 am

  • Group B - In person hours - 11:30 - 2:30pm

Two Hour Delay Schedule

In the event of a two-hour delay, the morning session will be cancelled for the day. Students will still be expected to work on coursework from their homes.

District Attendance Information

The school is required by law to attempt to contact the parent or guardian of each student who is absent. Midview’s Virtual Programming requires students to log into all of their courses/classes on a daily basis. If a situation arises where that will not be possible, we ask all parents to contact the Virtual Programming Office to inform us. As with in-person school, the absence will be marked excused if there is a valid reason or doctor’s note.  If contact  is not received to excuse your child’s absence, he/she will be marked unexcused.

In 2016, both the Ohio House and Senate passed House Bill 410, which adopts nationally accepted best practices to support students and families and keep students engaged in school and on a path to success. Part of the change from this legislation has to do with how absences are reported to the state.  Days and half days are no longer what is counted.  Absences are now counted based on hours of instruction missed. Hours of absence from school include time missed due to tardiness and early pick-up.

Due to this legislation, the Midview Local School District is required to send a notice to parents when a student reaches the following criteria for absences, either excused or unexcused.

  • Missing 38 or more hours within a 30 day period

  • Missing 65 or more hours with the school year

This letter simply serves as a notification of missing hours.

Additionally, per Ohio House Bill 410, any student who is identified as “Habitual Truant” will be assigned to an Absence Intervention Team and placed on an Absence Intervention Plan.  Failure to adhere to the plan may result in referral to the Lorain County Juvenile Court.  The criteria for “Habitual Truant” is as follows:

  • 30 consecutive hours of unexcused absences

  • 42 hours of unexcused absences in one month

  • 72 hours of unexcused absences in one school year

Please note that “Habitual Truant” refers to unexcused absences only.

Change of Address or Phone Number

If a student’s address or telephone number changes after school begins in the fall, please update Final Forms as soon as possible. This is the only way to ensure that our emergency contact information is up to date.  All information of this type is considered confidential.

Excused Absence

Ohio law recognizes the following as valid reasons for absence from school:

  1. Personal Illness

  2. Illness in the Family

  3. Death in the Family

  4. Religious Holidays

  5. Medical/Dental Appointments (with note from doctor)

  6. Emergencies/Circumstances deemed as good and sufficient cause by the administration.

If you know your child is going to be absent (unable to log into the computer), please contact us and let us know ASAP.
