Attendance

Attendance Procedures

When a student is absent/tardy parents should telephone the Midview West School (preferably before 8:40 a.m.) and state the reason for the absence/tardy. (If the student is going to be late please state if the child will be eating a school lunch or packing). If such a call is not received, the school will attempt to verify absences by our automated phone system the day the absence occurs.  Automated calls are sent out at approximately 9:15-9:30 a.m.

Upon returning to school, the student should turn in an absence notice to the teacher. The written statement should include the student's first and last name, teacher name, date of absence, reason for absence, and a parent/guardian signature. Absence notes will be only be accepted up to one (1) week after the child has missed school. After the one (1) week, the reason for the absence will stand and not be changed. Absence notes and phone calls must be made by the legal parent/guardian.

It is imperative that students be in attendance each school day in order not to miss a significant portion of their education. Many important lessons are learned through active participation in classroom and other school activities which cannot be replaced by individual study.

Tardy to School

A student who is not in his/her assigned classroom by 8:20 a.m. shall be considered tardy. Any student arriving late to school must have a parent/adult bring the student into the main office and sign the child in.
