Since the start of the school year, Midview Local Schools has proudly welcomed a number of visitors eager to learn more about the district’s innovative academic and career-based programs. From national organizations to local partners, these visits have provided valuable opportunities to showcase the work of our students and staff — and to highlight the district’s growing reputation for forward-thinking, career-connected learning.
Continued Spotlight on the MEMS Program
In August, Midview High School was selected as a host site for a national visit coordinated by Jobs for the Future (JFF) and the Congressional Staff Network (CSN). The visit highlighted the district’s partnership with Lorain County Community College (LCCC) through the Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) program—an early college pathway where students gain real-world microelectronics manufacturing experience while earning dual high school and college credit, plus industry credentials.
Visitors participated in a panel discussion with district and college leaders about how strong partnerships, early exposure to high-demand industries, and intentional dual-enrollment programs can better prepare students for success after graduation. Guests also met current and former MEMS students, who demonstrated their technical skills inside Midview’s MEMS lab.
The MEMS program’s success has continued to draw attention throughout the fall. In September, Spectrum News 1 visited the MEMS lab to feature Midview students in action—an experience that also gave Video Broadcasting students the chance to shadow the reporter and learn about careers in media.
Most recently, representatives from Washtenaw Community College, Washtenaw School District, and the SEMI Foundation—the workforce development arm of SEMI, a global microelectronics industry association—visited Midview to see firsthand how the district, Lorain County Community College, and local industry partners collaborated to create the MEMS program and transform a classroom into a mock cleanroom, a highly controlled environment used in advanced manufacturing.
The SEMI Foundation’s mission is to build and strengthen the talent pipeline for the semiconductor industry through programs that attract, develop, and retain a diverse workforce. It works across various levels, from K-12 STEM initiatives to adult reskilling, and focuses on creating career pathways and connecting job seekers with opportunities.
Midview to Host Statewide PLTW Showcase
Next month, Midview will serve as one of only three Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Showcase sites in Ohio, giving educators from across the state an inside look at the district’s nationally recognized STEM programming.
PLTW is a nonprofit that provides hands-on, project-based science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curricula that help students build both subject knowledge and essential real-world skills. For the fifth consecutive year, Midview has been named a PLTW Distinguished District—one of only 28 in the nation and three in Ohio.
The upcoming showcase will include an inside look into Midview’s Biomedical Sciences and Engineering classroom at the high school level, as well as Flight & Space and Green Architecture courses at the middle school. Following the tours, a panel discussion will expand on how Midview builds a strong STEM foundation beginning in the elementary and intermediate grades, integrates PLTW courses into its career-technical programs, and leverages College Credit Plus (CCP) to help students earn dual high school and college credit.
These visits underscore how Midview Local Schools continues to serve as a model for blending academics, career readiness, and real-world learning. The district remains committed to expanding opportunities that help students discover their passions, build meaningful skills, and prepare for success beyond graduation!
