PBIS

The Midview Local School District is proud to announce that Midview Middle School, Midview East Intermediate School, Midview West Elementary School, and Midview North Elementary School have all been recognized for their Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) programs. This marks the sixth consecutive year the schools have earned awards and the first year all four have achieved Gold distinction.

PBIS is a national framework that includes the development of school-wide behavior agreements and systems that teach, practice, and recognize positive behaviors across school settings while providing support and correction for problem behaviors. Midview Local Schools emphasizes three district-wide behavioral expectations as part of its PBIS framework: We Are Ready, We Are Responsible and We Are Respectful.

“Our focus on PBIS has helped students take greater ownership of their choices and understand how positive behavior contributes to a strong school community,” said Dr. Frank Major, Superintendent. “I’m incredibly proud of our staff for the time, creativity, and intentional planning they put into this work every month. Their dedication is what makes this recognition possible.”

Each school has a dedicated PBIS team that meets regularly to review attendance and behavior data, develop strategies and supports for students with specific needs, and organize incentives. Through KickBoard, staff across all buildings track positive behaviors and award Middie Bucks, which students can redeem for prizes or experiences such as principal for a day, lunch with the principal, pajama days, or extra recess.

Schools also host PBIS celebrations throughout the year that recognize positive behavior and build a strong sense of community. These events include assemblies, student–staff challenges, themed parties, guest speakers, and building-wide activity stations or games—creating fun, meaningful experiences that reinforce the value of positive choices.

Ohio’s PBIS Recognition System, coordinated by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce in collaboration with the Ohio PBIS Network, honors schools and districts that demonstrate quality and fidelity in PBIS implementation. Awards are given at multiple levels—bronze, silver, gold, and district—based on effectiveness. Schools must submit data on behavior, attendance, staff meetings, and interventions from the prior year to qualify. Recognition signifies that schools are meeting their PBIS goals and effectively supporting students with varying needs.
