Midview Students Make Astounding Debut at State Competition

GRAFTON, OH - Midview High School students traveled to Columbus last week to compete in Future Business Leaders of America’s (FBLA) state competition for the first time as part of Midview’s growing Career-Tech Education program, returning home with several wins and multiple state champion titles.

Midview students demonstrated their college and career knowledge by competing alongside more than 1,000 Ohio FBLA members and placing in 25 out of the 31 events they participated in. Students also placed fourth or higher in 13 of those events, qualifying them to compete at the National Leadership Conference against the best and brightest FBLA members from across the country.

Students competed in both presentation and written exam-style competitions, as well as an “Open Project Event” category, with Trent Roose, Ivy Hopkins, Alex Lenz and Bryce Newton all receiving first-place awards in their respective categories.

Participant Rachel Whary was grateful for the opportunity to take part in the competition.

“The conference was a pivotal experience in my high school career,” said Whary. “I know it will help me and every FBLA be more successful.”

Participant Zack Short shared similar sentiments about his experience.

“The FBLA Conference was a great experience on so many levels,” said Short. “We met tons of new people with different backgrounds and different plans for the future. It was fun to collaborate with them, and hopefully, we will see them in college or the business world someday.”

FBLA was introduced to Midview this year by new business teacher Jessica Ruth, who has worked closely with the organization at other schools.

“Our students are so tremendously inspiring,” said Ruth. “I felt so lucky to be able to witness the students’ faces when they were called as winners. They were so proud of themselves and I am so proud of them.”

Students competing at the National Leadership Conference will travel to Chicago, Illinois, from June 24- 27.
