Midview Schools is proud to announce that Midview High School Principal Brian Siftar has received the Ohio School Counselor Association Administrator Appreciation (OSCA) Award, thanks to his work last school year as assistant principal at Lakewood High School. Siftar was nominated by Lisa Gentry, a school counselor at Lakewood.
In her nomination form, Gentry said she cannot say enough wonderful things about Siftar and the work he did at Lakewood. “Mr. Siftar was a vital support to the school counseling department and was an instrumental team member, bringing new ideas and initiatives forth,” Gentry said. “He aided in the expansion of department and school-wide events, course offerings, College Credit Plus programs, innovative testing coordination, community collaboration, department processes and tools to assist in communication with students and families. When approached with a new idea or challenge, he always accepted it with excitement.”
OSCA Awards provide an “opportunity for the association to recognize and show appreciation for the accomplishments of school counselors, counselor educators, administrators and legislators across Ohio.” The Administrator Appreciation Award, one of several the OSCA presents, recognizes an administrator, school or district that has contributed to the growth and understanding of counseling.
Siftar said his time with Lakewood provided him with extensive experience and said he appreciated his colleagues and the work they do for their students. “I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with dedicated professionals at Lakewood High School who deserve much more credit than I. Namely, school counselors Mrs. Abbey Drost and Mrs. Lisa Gentry. It is because of their hard work and guidance that I am where I am today.”
As Midview High School principal, Siftar said he is bringing much of the same attention to his staff, students and families. “As we all know, positive rapport with students is the critical ingredient to aiding students in reaching their goals and aspirations for post-graduation, whether that is college, the trades, military service, or entering the workforce,” he said. “This drives our commitment to provide experiences that are engaging, meaningful, rigorous, and personalized that the community can be proud of.”
“We are really proud to have Brian as a part of our team and this award comes as no surprise to those that have worked with him here in Midview” said Midview Superintendent Dr. Bruce Willingham. “This is a terrific testament to the care and attention he brings to our students and community. Brian has worked tirelessly since taking over as principal of the high school and his work ethic is tremendous. We’re grateful for all he learned and was able to accomplish while at Lakewood and know he will continue to bring the same focus and energy to Midview.”
