Vet Day

The Midview Schools is proud to announce Midview East Intermediate School will be honoring our nation’s veterans on Veterans Day. As part of the celebration on Thursday, Nov. 11, the school is asking all students to invite a veteran in their life to the assembly at 8:45 a.m.

Students are recognizing veterans and those currently serving with a Stars & Ribbons display, writing the names of veterans on a star and that of a member currently serving on a ribbon. Students in grades 5 and 6 are also competing in an essay contest. The prompt for the contest is, “What does freedom mean to you?”. Winning essays will be read at the Nov. 11 assembly.

“This is a really great opportunity for our students to honor our veterans,” said East Intermediate Principal Meredith Udris. “Our community is so thankful for those who have served, and we just want to provide a moment to show our gratitude.”

Veterans Day is a federal holiday honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.  The day falls on the 11th day of the 11th month in honor of the ending of World War I.

“We look forward to approaching Veterans Day with grace and gratitude each year,” Midview Superintendent Dr. Bruce Willingham said. “It is important that we teach our students about the sacrifice and service that is has taken over the years to keep our country safe and free. The military is woven throughout the fabric of our community and we’re proud of East Intermediate in paying our heroes this moment of respect.”

For guest speaker, East Intermediate will welcome Colonel Hammond, husband to East Intermediate school counselor, Tammy Hammond. Other invited guests will arrive at East at 8:15 a.m. for refreshments, with free coffee being provided by the Midview High School Middie Café.
