Each January, schools across Ohio take time to recognize School Board Recognition Month—a time to celebrate the dedicated individuals who serve on local boards of education and help guide the future of our schools. At Midview Local Schools, this month offers an opportunity to thank a group of outstanding individuals whose commitment, service, and leadership directly support the success of our students and staff.
School board members devote countless hours to thoughtful decision-making that shapes nearly every aspect of education, from academic programming and staffing to budgeting and facilities. As elected officials, they provide vital local control over our public schools and serve as a bridge between the community and the classroom. By working closely with families, educators, and residents, they help establish the educational vision that reflects the needs and values of the Midview community.
While much of their work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt every day in our classrooms, buildings, and programs. We are grateful for the service of our board members: Tom Tomasheski (Board President), Janet Winslow (Board Vice President), Kathy Quintiliano (Board Member), Dan Haight (Board Member), and Jim Onderko (Board Member).
During the January Board of Education meeting, administrators and building teams shared the creative and thoughtful ways they chose to recognize the Board of Education, many of which reflected this year’s School Board Recognition Month theme, Scaling New Heights in Public Education:
North Elementary shared small gift bags with snacks such as granola bars and trail mix, along with cards thanking board members for helping students “climb to new heights.”
West Elementary led the creation of a video featuring all the elementary buildings, decorated their showcase, and collected letters from teachers highlighting classroom learning and gratitude.
East Intermediate created a Summit Celebration Wall mountain mural in the school lobby featuring the board members. They also prepared Summit Certificates along with thank-you letters and small gifts, including personalized carabiner keychains and trail mix.
Midview Middle School presented Midview-branded fanny packs through Harbor of Hope, paired with handwritten cards.
Midview High School gifted Harbor of Hope swag bags, including custom shirts and treats from Sweets Abilities.
Food Services prepared gift bags with nautical tea towels, treats, and cards signed by staff members across the department.
