Before Winter Break, Midview National Honor Society members visited Danbury Senior Living in North Ridgeville to hand deliver holiday-themed stockings to residents. The stockings were filled with socks, activity books, snacks, candy, and much-needed toiletry items. As always, our Midview students conducted themselves maturely and genuinely offered residents conversation and laughter. Together, they enjoyed lunch and many games of Bingo. NHS members were invited to return in the spring when the facility opens its doors for fresh air and the hope of sunshine.

Before Winter Break, High School English Language Learner students took North Elementary students on a cultural journey with a special “Holidays Around the World” presentation! The high schoolers did a great job sharing the customs, traditions, and beliefs associated with the holidays they and their families celebrate. North students enjoyed learning about Christmas in Ukraine and Puerto Rico, New Year's Eve in Ecuador, Ramadan, Friday Prayer, and Eid. They asked thoughtful questions, shared some of their own family traditions, and were excited to maybe incorporate some of the new traditions they learned about (such as eating 12 grapes under a table for good luck)!

This year, Christmas came early for several students thanks to the kindness and work of our Midview Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE) members, which includes maintenance and custodians, bus drivers and mechanics, kitchen staff, secretaries, and library/educational/special education paraprofessionals. Over the last several weeks, staff members worked together to donate and collect funds to purchase bicycles as part of their new Bikes for Kids Program. This past weekend, they assembled and hand-delivered new bikes to 13 deserving students in grades K-4!

Over the last few weeks, sixth-grade STEM students had the opportunity to design an Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) prototype to assist children with spastic hemiplegia, a form of cerebral palsy. Students worked in engineering design teams to research, sketch, and create an AFO that met specific criteria and constraints, including mobility, fit, foot alignment, support, and comfortability. Today, the top teams from each homeroom presented their prototypes to guest judges from our high school PLTW Biomedical Sciences class!
