Midview High School and Oberlin High School joined forces on Wednesday for the first part of their student exchange program called SWAP (Students Working to Achieve Perspective). Planned collaboratively by Midview’s L.O.V.E (Let Our Voices Emerge) Club, Oberlin’s Student Council, and each school’s administrators, the SWAP Day aimed to create camaraderie and build community between the two schools. Oberlin students were greeted by the Midview High School band and our AFJROTC. The day kicked off with donuts and introductions, followed by guided tours of the building, class sit-ins, team-building activities, lunch, and meaningful conversations about each school’s similarities and differences as they apply to programs, culture, and community. Midview L.O.V.E. Club students will visit Oberlin on April 23! We hope to continue to expand the SWAP to involve additional schools next year.

Students following our Micro-electromechanical Systems (MEMS) career pathway recently had an opportunity to engage with professionals from Intel and Rockwell Automation! They were able to gain insights into the operations of each company, further discover the practical application of their classroom knowledge, explore potential career paths and opportunities, and inquire about various aspects of the industry. Through the MEMS pathway, students manually produce tiny integrated devices or systems that combine mechanical and electrical components. These devices are found in many electronics, pharmaceutical products, and medical equipment!

Before Winter Break, Midview National Honor Society members visited Danbury Senior Living in North Ridgeville to hand deliver holiday-themed stockings to residents. The stockings were filled with socks, activity books, snacks, candy, and much-needed toiletry items. As always, our Midview students conducted themselves maturely and genuinely offered residents conversation and laughter. Together, they enjoyed lunch and many games of Bingo. NHS members were invited to return in the spring when the facility opens its doors for fresh air and the hope of sunshine.

Before Winter Break, High School English Language Learner students took North Elementary students on a cultural journey with a special “Holidays Around the World” presentation! The high schoolers did a great job sharing the customs, traditions, and beliefs associated with the holidays they and their families celebrate. North students enjoyed learning about Christmas in Ukraine and Puerto Rico, New Year's Eve in Ecuador, Ramadan, Friday Prayer, and Eid. They asked thoughtful questions, shared some of their own family traditions, and were excited to maybe incorporate some of the new traditions they learned about (such as eating 12 grapes under a table for good luck)!

This year, Christmas came early for several students thanks to the kindness and work of our Midview Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE) members, which includes maintenance and custodians, bus drivers and mechanics, kitchen staff, secretaries, and library/educational/special education paraprofessionals. Over the last several weeks, staff members worked together to donate and collect funds to purchase bicycles as part of their new Bikes for Kids Program. This past weekend, they assembled and hand-delivered new bikes to 13 deserving students in grades K-4!
